CCTV9英语新闻:Madonna, John Lennon items up for auction

Madonna's dresses, John Lennon's glasses and Michael Jackson's performance outfits are among the items up for auction this week in Beverly Hills.

Julien's Auction's annual event Icons and Idols: Rock n' Roll features memorabilia from more than 40 artists.

The highlight of the auction is a large Madonna collection, including multiple items from her 1996 award winning film Evita, as well as various personal items, from a signed credit card to her wedding dress.

"Yeah, so, Madonna of course is a global icon, we have over 140 lots from her career, including the pink dress that she wore in the Material Girl video in 1985, we all remember that, with the fur stole, of course. That's estimated at 40,000 to 60,000. We have a great array of items from her movie career, her Desperately Seeking Susan jacket, but also we have 39 lots from Evita, which was one of the major movies that Madonna starred in. We have her wedding dress when she married Sean Penn in 1985, and in 1987 we have their annulment papers, so we've got everything covered in this auction," said Martin Nolan, executive director of Julien's Auction.

The auction also features a pair of John Lennon glasses. The rock icon gave them to a fashion designer, who later replaced the lenses with her own prescription.

"And John Lennon, we recognize John Lennon for always wearing glasses, we call them the Granny glasses and we have a great pair of glasses, estimated 20,000 to 40,000 that he gave to a fashion designer at the Ad Lib club in London in the 1960's and she's held them in her underwear drawer since then, so it's a great story behind them; 20,000 to 40,000, very iconic and very recognizable, too," Nolan said.

The auction also features about 70 items from The Beatles and 40 items from Michael Jackson, which always do very well at auction; other items include performance outfits worn by Lady Gaga, Cher, Britney Spears and Whitney Houston.

The auction is scheduled to take place Friday and Saturday.
